Hazmat Fulfillment Without the Compliance Headache.

A hazmat 3PL for the products other warehouses turn away: perfume, aerosols, nail polish, lithium batteries, and fully regulated ground shipments. Hazmat-trained staff classify, package, label, and document every order under DOT 49 CFR — from the same 250,000 sq ft Paramount, CA warehouse that runs your regular SKUs.

Two Tiers, One Warehouse

Limited Quantity and Fully Regulated. We Run Both.

Most 3PLs either refuse hazmat entirely or only touch limited quantity. We classify every SKU and run it at the tier the regulations actually require.

Limited Quantity

Most consumer products land here

  • Retail-sized perfume, nail polish, aerosols, sanitizers
  • LQ diamond mark instead of full hazard labels
  • No shipping papers required for ground
  • Costs close to standard pick-and-pack rates
  • Ships with your regular SKUs in the same order

Fully Regulated

For shipments past LQ inner limits

  • UN-rated packaging matched to packing group
  • Full hazard class labels and markings
  • Shipping papers with emergency contact on every move
  • Hazmat-contract carriers, ground network
  • Case and pallet quantities to B2B and retail

The Compliance Chain

Five Gates Between Your SKU and the Truck

01

Classification

Every SKU gets a hazmat determination before it hits a rack: UN number, hazard class, packing group, and whether it qualifies for limited quantity. You get the classification in writing.

02

Segregated storage

Hazmat inventory racks in dedicated locations with incompatible classes separated, tracked by location and quantity in the WMS alongside your standard SKUs.

03

Compliant packaging

UN-rated cartons for fully regulated freight, inner-quantity checks for LQ, cushioning and orientation for liquids — matched to each product's spec, not a one-size guess.

04

Marks, labels & papers

LQ diamonds, hazard labels, orientation arrows, lithium battery marks, and shipping papers with emergency response info where required. Applied by 49 CFR-trained staff.

05

Carrier tender

Orders tender to carriers under their dangerous goods programs — same-day for orders before cutoff — with tracking pushed back to your store like any other shipment.

What Is Hazmat Fulfillment?

Hazmat fulfillment is regular order fulfillment plus a layer of federal law. If a product is flammable, pressurized, corrosive, or contains a lithium battery, DOT regulations (49 CFR) govern how it's classified, packaged, marked, labeled, documented, and tendered to a carrier. Get it wrong and the consequences aren't abstract: carriers audit packages, undeclared hazmat draws five-figure fines per violation, and repeat offenders lose carrier accounts entirely.

That's why most warehouses simply refuse the category — and why brands selling fragrance and cosmetics, electronics with lithium batteries, or aerosol-based haircare keep hearing "we don't take that." We built the training, packaging inventory, and carrier programs to take it. Your hazmat SKUs rack alongside your standard products, pick into the same orders, and ship the same day through our e-commerce fulfillment operation.

One warehouse, one inventory pool, one WMS — with the compliance handled by people trained to handle it.

Limited Quantity vs. Fully Regulated: What Your Products Need

The single biggest cost lever in hazmat fulfillment is whether your SKUs qualify as limited quantity. A 1.7 oz perfume bottle and a 55-gallon drum of the same fragrance oil are both Class 3 flammable liquids — but the bottle ships ground with a simple LQ diamond mark at near-standard rates, while the drum demands UN-rated packaging, full labeling, and shipping papers.

Most consumer products in retail sizes qualify for limited quantity. Where brands get burned is the edges: case packs that exceed inner-container limits, wholesale orders that push past LQ gross weight, marketplace rules like Amazon's dangerous goods program (see our FBA prep services), and air shipments where LQ relief doesn't apply the same way. We classify every SKU up front, in writing, so the tier is a fact — not a guess made at the packing station.

And when a wholesale PO needs fully regulated pallets moved, ground freight runs from the same dock. Send us your product list and we'll tell you exactly which tier each SKU lands in.

Hazmat Fulfillment FAQs

What brands ask before moving regulated products to us.

What is hazmat fulfillment?+

Hazmat fulfillment is storing, picking, packing, and shipping products classified as hazardous materials under DOT 49 CFR — perfumes, aerosols, nail polish, lithium batteries, corrosive cleaners, and similar goods. It requires trained staff, UN-rated packaging, correct marks and labels, shipping papers, and carriers that accept dangerous goods. 3PLGuys runs hazmat fulfillment from our 250,000 sq ft FDA-registered warehouse in Paramount, CA.

What hazmat classes do you handle?+

We handle Class 2.1 aerosols, Class 3 flammable liquids, Class 8 corrosives, and Class 9 miscellaneous including lithium batteries — both as limited quantity consumer commodities and as fully regulated ground shipments. We do not handle Class 1 explosives, Class 7 radioactive materials, toxic gases, or bulk tanker quantities.

Can you ship perfume and nail polish?+

Yes. Alcohol-based perfumes and nail polish are Class 3 flammable liquids that typically qualify for limited quantity ground shipping in retail sizes. We apply the correct LQ marks, orientation arrows, and packaging requirements so your fragrance orders move compliantly without air-shipping restrictions surprising you.

Can you ship lithium batteries?+

Yes. We ship lithium-ion (UN3481) and lithium-metal (UN3091) products under 49 CFR 173.185 with proper UN-rated packaging, hazmat documentation, and carrier compliance — batteries packed with equipment, contained in equipment, and standalone where regulations allow. Ground and air where regulations permit.

What is limited quantity shipping?+

Limited quantity (LQ) is a DOT provision that lets consumer-sized hazmat — small bottles of perfume, standard aerosol cans, retail nail polish — ship ground with reduced requirements: the LQ diamond mark instead of full hazard labels, and no shipping papers for ground moves. Inner container size limits apply per class. Most beauty and personal care hazmat qualifies, which keeps costs close to standard fulfillment.

Do you ship hazmat by air?+

Ground is the default for hazmat — it's cheaper and far less restricted. Air is available only where regulations permit and the product qualifies; many flammables and standalone lithium batteries are heavily restricted or forbidden on aircraft. We'll tell you up front which of your SKUs can fly and which must move by ground.

Is your staff hazmat trained?+

Yes. DOT requires function-specific training under 49 CFR 172.704 for anyone who prepares hazmat shipments, and our receiving, packing, and shipping staff maintain that training. Misdeclared or mispacked hazmat means carrier fines and stranded freight — trained people are the whole game.

How is hazmat inventory stored?+

Hazmat SKUs are racked in segregated locations within the same building as the rest of our operation, with incompatible classes separated and quantities tracked by location in our WMS. Your regulated and non-regulated SKUs live under one roof and ship in the same orders — no split inventory across providers.

How much does hazmat fulfillment cost?+

Pricing is volume-based, quoted on your actual SKUs and order volume. Limited quantity items usually run close to standard pick-and-pack rates plus materials; fully regulated shipments add carrier hazmat fees and documentation labor. Send us your product list — we'll classify it and give you exact numbers. The quote is the price.

Which products are hazmat without brands realizing it?+

More than most founders expect: perfume and cologne (flammable), dry shampoo and setting sprays (aerosols), nail polish and remover (flammable), hand sanitizer (flammable), alcohol-based tinctures, butane lighters, some cleaning concentrates (corrosive), and anything with a lithium battery inside. If a carrier finds undeclared hazmat, the fines land on the shipper — get products classified before they ship.
